Football World Rankings

I do not understand the low ranking of my favourite Club, Top Scorer or Coach.

To understand the ranking of a Club, Top Scorer or Coach well, you need to know the various elements of the calculation, which determine the number of points that can be earned.

All results are weighted, making a substantial difference, e.g.

  • the Spanish Primera Division is much higher rated as the Dutch Eredivisie, for instance
  • CONMEBOL and UEFA are stronger FIFA confederations than AFC, CAF and CONCACAF
  • International cup matches – in particular in the knock-out stages – are weighted more heavily than domestic league matches

Points are calculated using the match results of the last 52 weeks, which are often results from the current and partly the previous season. This means the current position in the domestic league table or scorers' table does not determine the rank in the World Rankings.

Good results in the International cup tournaments – in particular in the knock out stages – are crucial for a high rank in the Football World Rankings.
